At Noble Avenue Real Estate, community is at the heart of everything we do. One of our most cherished initiatives is our annual Reverse Advent Calendar, which unites our local community to support individuals experiencing food insecurity during the festive season. This year, we are excited to raise the bar and aim to fill 250 boxes for Foodbank WA, surpassing last year’s incredible achievement of 170 boxes, which provided 2,225 kg of food to assist approximately 4,000 people in need.
If you’d like to be part of this wonderful cause, we’d love to hear from you! The more, the merrier. Boxes can be collected from our Noble Avenue office at 2/46 Angove Drive, Hillarys.
What is a Reverse Advent Calendar?
A Reverse Advent Calendar is the opposite of the traditional Advent Calendar. Instead of receiving something each day, you focus on giving. It begins with an empty box. For 20 days leading up to Christmas, place one item—such as non-perishable food, toiletries, or a festive treat—into the box. After 20 days, the filled box is dropped off at a designated location, and food relief agencies like Foodbank WA distribute the items to individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community.
This small daily act of giving adds up to a huge impact, especially for those who need it most. It shifts the focus from receiving to giving, reminding us all of the true spirit of the holiday season.
Why This Initiative Matters
As we continue through 2024, the issue of food insecurity has become more urgent than ever. Foodbank WA has highlighted that nearly half of low-income households are struggling to put food on the table, with some families forced to skip meals or go entire days without eating.
One parent shared, “The rise in the cost of living has meant that everything has gone up dramatically, however, my pay has stayed the same. I have not been able to afford most things… I feel like I’ve failed as a parent because we are really struggling.”
This is a reality faced by many Australians today, and it’s why community-driven initiatives like our Reverse Advent Calendar are so important.
